Considering that Wray is 126 proof, it is not advisable to drink this straight, though many are not deterred. After adding a dash of water, bold flavors of clove, caramelized bananas, candied walnuts, grilled pineapple, and hogo dominate your palate and transport you to the islands of Jamaica.
Notes of blackstrap molasses, hints of coffee, celery, allspice, hazelnut, and toffee with a subtle layer of ripe pineapple. Buttery upon entry and followed by sweet sugar cane, caramel, tobacco, leather, honey, dark chocolate with elements of raisin and fig.
Clean and dry, yet very slight sweetness with muscovado sugar, blue cheese, spiced apples, pears and notes of vanilla, caramel and a faint pinch of black pepper spice.
Intense, it starts on molasses, pear and varnish. It then becomes fruitier and spicier on apple, banana and gooseberry, also nutmeg and vanilla with a hint of smoke. Rich and round, it follows the nose with vanilla fudge, honey, ginger and fruity notes of prune and coconut.
Warming notes of butterscotch, nutmeg and dried apricots. Longer aging brings out additional complexity of flavors from the barrel and develops a rich body with velvety smoothness.
Bold vanilla bean and sweet toasted caramel accents - think creme brulee or toasted marshmallows. Further notes of toasted orange, pancake batter, buttery fudge, clove, warm cinnamon and ginger, aniseed, nutmeg and coriander seed. Mellow and smooth oak tones with a bite of pepper to finish.
Light and good notes of pineapple, toffee, hint of oak and a blast of alcohol. On the palate it is mild with light tropical fruit balanced with a sticky vanilla, there is a slight astringency. To finish the forward fruit disappears leaving an oak and charcoal residue.
