Italian Liqueurs, Bitters, Spirits and Aperitifs

Flavours of bittersweet orange, gentian root, rhubarb and some ripe strawberry with a balanced bitter sweet palate. Enjoy it with equal parts soda water and a squeeze of lime or add to your glass of Prosecco for added punch.

The predominant taste is star anise. However, it is combined with a new velvety sensation on the palate, with light spicy hints of cardamom and coriander, and an after-taste where the typical digestive aromas of liquorice predominate.

Luxardo Cherry Sangue Morlacco is a liqueur of marasca cherries (a sour cherry variety exclusively cultivated by Luxardo) - another version of cherry brandy. It is obtained by the infusion of marasca juice. Luxardo cherry liqueur was renamed with the curious name of Sangue Morlacco (Morlacco blood) by the poet Gabriele D Annunzio in 1919, at the time of the Fiume military expedition, due to its dark red colour (the word Morlacco derives from the name of a proud people of the Dalmatian hinterland who defended the borders of the Republic of Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries).

This clear liqueur is crafted from a green Sicilian aniseed macerated in alcohol to give a rich flavour. The Classic Sambuca is sweet and smooth, with the distinctive flavour of star anise. Bartenders number 1 Sambuca of choice, and achieves top score in blind tasting test and quality test.

On the nose, you will smell zesty orange with complex herbal scents, harmonised with a touch of vanilla. At first taste, theres an intense orange top with herbal and woody body notes that round out to be pleasantly bittersweet and salty. Aperol feels velvety and rounded on the tongue, with lingering orange and woody notes. Theres a mild bitterness with a hint of sweetness and herbal aftertaste that lingers at the back of the mouth.

Malfy Originale has a very classic style nose. Spice notes are slightly loud with a lot of piney, green and herbaceous juniper right beside it. The only critique might be that the nose has a touch of alcohol, with an ethanol-forward nose. The slightest tinge of lemon on the tip of the tongue when sipped.

Very citrus forward and fresh, with touches of woody juniper bringing character. Lemon notes are authentic, bright and mouth-filling.

The Mancino Vermouth di Torino Rosso Amaranto is full-bodied and has hints of vanilla, rhubarb, juniper, toasted wood, myrrh, cloves, cinnamon, orange peel and a bitter sweet finish.

It has an intense aroma of Mediterranean herbs, sage, marjoram and oregano with delicate hints of lemongrass, dog rose, iris, nutmeg and a citrusy finish. Slightly bitter, fresh and extra dry.

Martini Bianco is a fine blend of Italian white wine infused with herbs and sweet floral botanicals and produces an aromatic yet delicate drink with notes of vanilla and citrus.

Martini Extra Dry combines raspberry and lemon peel, with the violet-scented tartness of Florentine Orris. Light, zesty and fragrant overall.

Succulent red berries, prickles of black pepper, some herbal aromas and faint sandlewood round the nose. Faint woody tannins complement dry wormwood among the fruity red berries. It has a refreshing herbal finish with some lingering bitterness.
