Originally created by the Dutch a juniper forward spirit. London dry styles dominate here with a renaissance in 2010 – craft gin soared in popularity! Luckily for us this has enabled a huge variety of different gins to be available.
A traditional london dry gin, juniper led with a touch of citrus. Slight burn on the finish that doesnt stick around. Very moreish in a traditional Gin and Tonic.
Tanqueray Gin has a very obvious juniper flavour which comes forward in the initial delivery; yet the bitterness which so often accompanies juniper seems to be for the most part, absent. Instead, there is a soft lemony sweetness melding into that juniper flavour giving the gin an approachability.
The viscosity of the liquid is exceptional. Immediately a bouquet of herbal freshness, juniper and sweet citrus come to the fore. Allow a little time to open and the sweet, spicy and earthy notes of cassia and coriander set a base for the delicate complexity of the Islay 22.
Soft and rounded aroma. Still present juniper, now followed by bitter sweet candied orange flavour. A subtle underlying floral note lightens the nose. Strong flavour notes of candied orange, a touch of white pepper and a solid backbone of juniper.
Thick and rich with a balanced sweet and sour berry character. A spiced-honey backdrop is painted over with layers of cherries, plums, and tart berries, with hints of cherry menthol and dark chocolate developing as it sits in the glass.
Soft and creamy strawberry mousse leads, quickly followed by peppery juniper and freshly cracked black pepper. Layers of citrus pith and peel support the strawberries, with musky spice slowly building from underneath.
